In the category “Identification, Packaging and Loading Technology, Load Securing”, the RFID Reader Generation 4 from Kathrein Solutions GmbH (Hall 2, Stand 2A17) was awarded the coveted prize in 2025.
Setting new standards for logistics processes
The fourth generation of RAIN RFID reader technology from Kathrein Solutions, presented at LogiMAT 2025, features numerous technological innovations that open up new possibilities for process-optimized logistics. The product line includes two variants:
- ARU Gen4 (Antenna Reader Unit) – with integrated antenna and three additional ports for external antennas
- RRU Gen4 (Reader Unit) – with four ports for external antennas
The phased-array antenna technology integrated into the ARU Gen4 is particularly innovative, with three scalable antenna beams: two wide beams detect transponders to the left and right, while a narrow beam enables detection in a straight line. This intelligent antenna control ensures highly reliable data collection – even in complex environments.
Real-time tracking for maximum efficiency
Mounted on a forklift, the reader can securely and specifically read all transponders on a pallet. This makes it possible to perform a real-time inventory while goods are still in motion. The captured data is transmitted directly to the ERP system via the integrated wireless connectivity (WLAN and/or 5G).
This technology offers enormous advantages in warehouse logistics and goods transport:
- Automatic detection of RFID-tagged products when loading and unloading trucks or when relocating pallets
- Reduction of manual scanning processes through real-time networking
- Elimination of additional RFID gates for detection
Sustainability and reduced operating costs
In addition to its technological advances, the RFID Reader Generation 4 also boasts a sustainable design. The devices consume 40 percent less energy and use 50 percent fewer materials. As a result, the new readers not only deliver lower operating costs, but also actively contribute to reducing the environmental footprint.
