Vusion, formerly SES-imagotag, is partnering with INTERSPAR to deploy its connected-store platform and electronic shelf labels across INTERSPAR and Maximarkt stores in Austria.

The rollout centralizes pricing and promotions, speeds execution, and uses native wireless integration to reduce hardware and installation costs, while supporting larger displays in fresh departments and shop-in-shop autonomy for suppliers.

Overview

On March 18, 2026, Vusion announced a partnership with Austrian retailer INTERSPAR to deploy Vusion’s connected-store platform and electronic shelf labels (ESL) across INTERSPAR and Maximarkt stores in Austria. The deployment aims to centralize pricing and promotional management and provide real-time shelf-edge information to shoppers.

Deployment details

INTERSPAR has already rolled out Vusion’s ESLs in 27 INTERSPAR hypermarkets and plans to deploy around 20 additional locations in the same year. The retailer uses a range of ESL formats: larger displays for fresh areas such as bakery and delicatessen, four-color ESLs for detailed product information, and colored frames to highlight categories like organic products.

Vusion’s platform is natively integrated into the stores’ wireless infrastructure. According to the announcement, this native integration reduces the need for additional hardware and installation work, which lowers costs and accelerates rollouts.

Operational impact

Centralized pricing and promotions management eliminates manual price updates at the shelf and shortens execution times while improving accuracy. The use of larger ESLs in fresh categories supports visibility of detailed information such as ingredients and allergens, which can improve transparency and shopper trust.

The solution also enables shop-in-shop operations, for example the SPAR Group meat and sausage manufacturer TANN, to control their own price and product communication independently. This independence supports flexible promotion management and inventory balancing for supplier-operated areas inside stores.

Executive comments

Johannes Holzleitner, Managing Director of INTERSPAR Austria, said: "After rolling out Vusion’s electronic shelf labels in 27 INTERSPAR hypermarkets, we are planning to deploy around 20 additional locations this year. The four-color ESLs provide accurate price and product information, while colored frames, for example for organic products, offer additional guidance. Our employees benefit from faster processes, giving them more time for personalized customer service."

Sébastien Fourcy, SEVP EMEA, Vusion, commented: "By adopting our latest technologies, INTERSPAR is set to boost operational performance and reinforce shopper trust through real-time pricing accuracy and transparent shelf-edge communication. INTERSPAR’s confidence in our cutting-edge solutions reflects the strong momentum behind our mission to digitally transform physical retail across the DACH region."

Relevance for system integrators, solution providers and retailers

  • System integrators: The native use of store wireless infrastructure reduces integration scope for additional networking hardware but requires coordination with existing WLAN systems and store IT teams.

  • Solution providers: ESLs combined with a connected-store platform highlight the need for scalable device management, firmware provisioning, and secure integration with pricing and promotions systems.

  • Retailers and end users: Centralized price and promotion control reduces manual labor and errors, improves shelf accuracy, and can free store staff for higher-value customer service tasks.

INTERSPAR is the largest subsidiary of SPAR Österreichische Warenhandels-AG and operates 78 INTERSPAR locations, around 70 gastronomy outlets, and eight in-house bakeries. Founded in 1970, the company employs more than 10,000 people and stocks around 50,000 food and non-food products. INTERSPAR also operates an online shop and specialist wine retailing.
