RFID license plate for secure vehicle identification

IDePLATE® is an aluminium vehicle license plate with an integrated passive RAIN RFID chip and cryptographic authentication. At first glance it looks like a conventional plate, but it contains a unique, encrypted identification number that can only be read by certified readers. The RFID technology is an integral part of the plate structure and cannot be removed or tampered with without visible damage or loss of function.

Authorities and intelligent transport system operators can use this unique ID to identify vehicles contactlessly in stationary or moving traffic and match them against central databases, independent of weather or lighting conditions. This makes vehicle identification more secure and reliable and enables future-oriented solutions such as automatic tolling, access control, smart mobility applications and efficient fleet management.

IDePLATE can also be supplied as a tamper-proof plate (Tamper Proof Plate, TPP), where any theft attempt visibly destroys the seal.

    Designed for the global UHF band (860–960 MHz) with typical read ranges of up to approx. 18 m (EU plate size 520 × 110 mm) and 16 m (US plate size 300 × 150 mm) – ideal for fixed and mobile reader setups.

  • Tamper Proof Plate (optional)
    Tamper-evident version with special seals and mounting elements (e.g. one-way screws) that are visibly destroyed in case of removal or theft attempts.

  • Proven license plate design
    Embossed rim and alphanumeric characters, coloured with opaque hot stamping foil, meet visual and regulatory requirements for standard number plates.
