NXP Supports Aliro 1.0 for Standardized Hands-Free Access
Aliro 1.0 defines an open framework for secure, interoperable digital access using NFC, Bluetooth LE and UWB. NXP’s Aliro-certified access solution combines these technologies with EdgeLock security for smart locks, readers and mobile credentials.
Open Standard for Digital Access
Aliro 1.0 introduces a unified framework for secure access control based on digital credentials and secure communication between user devices and access points. The standard was developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance and is backed by more than 220 companies across the access-control value chain.
NXP contributed to the development of Aliro as a board member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. For access-control manufacturers and system integrators, the main relevance lies in reducing fragmentation across locks, readers, mobile devices, credentials and management systems.
NFC, Bluetooth LE and UWB in One Framework
Aliro 1.0 supports several transaction technologies. NFC enables tap-to-access use cases, while Bluetooth Low Energy supports user-initiated long-range engagement. Combined with ultra-wideband, Bluetooth LE enables secure hands-free authentication based on precise proximity.
The specification uses asymmetric cryptography to enable trusted interaction between mobile devices and readers while protecting user privacy. It is also designed for environments with limited or no network connectivity, including elevators and underground parking garages.
Mobile Wallet Support
Support from major mobile wallet ecosystems is a key adoption factor. Apple, Google and Samsung are aligned with Aliro, enabling a consistent digital-credential experience on devices that users already carry.
For end users, this can reduce the need for dedicated cards or fobs. For building owners and operators, it supports a scalable transition from physical credentials to mobile access.
NXP Autonomous Secure Access Solution
The Home and Building Access solution referenced by NXP is the Autonomous Secure Access Solution, listed as AUT-SECURE-ACCESS. It is a preproduction solution for the physical access-control market, with specifications subject to change. NXP lists the solution as sampling now, with availability planned for the second half of 2025.
The solution is designed to help developers create secure smart access devices for autonomous home and building environments. Its building blocks include MCX W microcontrollers for processing and Matter over Thread connectivity, NFC for tap-and-go access, UWB for hands-free access and scalable security.
Supported devices include EdgeLock SE051 and SE051S secure elements, Trimension SR150 secure UWB, the PN7642 NFC reader and MCX W71 and MCX W72 wireless MCUs. The SE051S supports the CSA Aliro protocol for autonomous, secure access solutions.
The platform provides hardware, SDKs, integrated middleware and a cloud provisioning platform. It is designed to support Aliro, Thread, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE and Matter-ready connectivity, with optimizations for low power and performance. Target applications include access management and smart locks.
Aliro 1.0-Certified Access Solution
NXP’s Aliro Hands-Free Home and Building Access solution is certified for Aliro 1.0. The solution integrates secure NFC for tap-based authentication, Bluetooth LE for long-range interaction, UWB for precise hands-free access and EdgeLock security for credential protection and lifecycle management.
For device manufacturers, Aliro 1.0 offers a route toward certified interoperability instead of isolated proprietary implementations. For system integrators, the standard can simplify deployments across access points, mobile devices and backend credential systems.
For building owners and operators, the practical value lies in scalable digital access. Aliro-based systems can support tap-based, user-initiated and hands-free access scenarios within a common security and interoperability framework.
