Maxell Europe Ltd is pleased to announce the first commercial application of its advanced All-Solid-State* battery technology in Europe, in partnership with microsensys. The ground-breaking partnership will see Maxell’s all-solid-state battery power a next-generation medical sensor, a data logger designed to monitor cleaning and disinfection processes in the medical industry.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the adoption of all-solid-state batteries within the European industrial sector, particularly in the advancement of sensor monitoring in medical and industrial processes where extreme temperatures and harsh conditions challenge traditional battery solutions.

The latest version of a wireless sensor monitoring solution developed by microsensys integrates Maxell’s PSB401010H All-Solid-State battery, which offers exceptional heat resistance and long-term reliability. This enables real-time data logging of critical disinfection parameters, ensuring the safety and efficacy of medical instrument cleaning processes.

* All-solid-state batteries (ASSB) are an advancement on conventional lithium-ion batteries. They replace the liquid or gel electrolyte with a solid electrolyte, which offers numerous advantages.

Revolutionizing medical disinfection and industrial process monitoring

Maxell’s all-solid-state battery is uniquely suited for this application because it can operate at temperatures up to 125°C, making it ideal for the high-heat environments required for high-performance medical cleaning. Featuring a compact 10.5mm x 10.5mm x 4.0mm design and a nominal capacity of 8mAh, the PSB401010H battery provides reliable, long-lasting power with minimal maintenance, even under demanding conditions.

Utilizing this state-of-the-art battery, microsensys’ new TELID eco-series data logger can continuously record temperature, pressure and other disinfection parameters with unmatched reliability. This ensures that hospitals, laboratories and medical facilities can maintain strict cleaning standards, improving patient safety and regulatory compliance.

A Major Step Forward in the Adoption of All-Solid State Batteries

This partnership underscores Maxell’s commitment to advancing energy storage solutions for critical applications. The ability of Maxell’s all-solid-state battery to power medical-grade sensors in extreme environments demonstrates its potential across the healthcare industry and beyond.

“Our all-solid-state battery technology is transforming industries where durability and reliability are paramount. Partnering with microsensys to bring this innovation to medical disinfection monitoring is a milestone in ensuring safer, more efficient healthcare processes.”

Stewart Smith – Senior Manager, microsensys

Microsensys emphasized the significance of this partnership

Sylvo Jäger, CEO of microsensys: In medical and industrial processes, reliability and safety are paramount, especially in extreme environments. For our latest product line with outstanding sustainability parameters, we needed a power source that could withstand sustained temperatures of at least 115°C. Maxell’s all-solid-state battery exceeded our expectations, operating safely up to 125°C.

Its ceramic structure and solid electrolyte eliminate the risk of leakage, swelling or degradation, making it an ideal and far safer choice for medical applications. By integrating this advanced battery into our latest data logger, we are providing healthcare professionals with a maintenance-free, high-performance solution that ensures accurate and safe disinfection monitoring.
