Compact LF and HF RFID transponders provide durable identification for tools, equipment, components, returnable assets and selected animal identification applications in demanding environments.

Industrial assets may remain in service for years while being exposed to moisture, chemicals, vibration and changing operating conditions. HID Glass Tags are designed to give these assets a permanent RFID identity throughout their lifecycle.

The small glass-encapsulated transponders can be integrated directly into tools, machinery components, equipment and reusable transport assets. Available with LF and HF RFID technologies, they enable contactless identification where conventional labels, printed codes or exposed electronic tags may be less suitable.

A Permanent Digital Identity Inside the Asset

Instead of attaching identification only to the outside of an object, a glass RFID transponder can be embedded directly into the product or installed in a protected recess.

Each tag carries a unique RFID identity that can be linked in software to information such as serial number, owner, maintenance history, calibration status or production data.

The complete dataset does not need to be stored on the tag itself. In many applications, the RFID tag acts as a durable digital key that connects the physical asset with its record in an asset management, maintenance or manufacturing system.

Compact Design for Tools and Components

HID Glass Tags are available in multiple sizes and IC configurations, with standard form factors starting at approximately 1.25 × 8 millimeters.

This compact design makes it possible to integrate RFID into objects where installation space is limited, including tools, production equipment, machinery components, reusable containers, kegs and other industrial assets.

The transponders use HID’s patented DBond direct-bonding technology, which connects the antenna directly to the RFID chip and supports a compact construction.

Protection for Harsh Industrial Conditions

The glass enclosure protects the electronics against moisture and chemical exposure and supports use in demanding industrial environments.

This makes the tags suitable for applications where identification must remain available over long operating periods, including manufacturing, maintenance and logistics processes.

LF and HF RFID Options

HID offers both LF and HF RFID variants to address different application requirements.

Available chip and memory configurations range from basic identification to read/write memory options of up to 2 Kbits. The appropriate frequency, tag size and IC depend on factors such as reading distance, available space, surrounding materials and the data requirements of the application.

From Tool Tracking to Manufacturing Automation

In tool management, an embedded RFID tag can support issuing and returning processes, maintenance intervals, inspections and calibration records.

For machinery and industrial components, RFID can connect the physical asset with service and production histories. Manufacturers can also integrate the transponder during production instead of adding identification later.

Returnable transport items such as containers, pallets or kegs can be individually identified throughout manufacturing and logistics processes, improving visibility into reusable asset pools.

In automated production environments, RFID readers can identify tagged tools, components or work carriers at machines and assembly stations. The RFID identity can then trigger software processes, verify that the correct object is present or document the completion of a production step.

Animal and Veterinary Identification

Glass-encapsulated RFID transponders are also widely suited to animal identification applications because their compact form factor enables permanent electronic identification with minimal space requirements.

Depending on the specific product configuration and applicable standards, glass tags can support the identification of livestock, companion animals, laboratory animals or other animals that require a persistent individual ID.

The RFID number can be linked to digital records such as ownership information, breeding data, veterinary documentation, health records or traceability information. In this way, the transponder provides a durable connection between the individual animal and its associated data throughout its lifetime.

Identification Designed for the Asset Lifecycle

The value of glass RFID tags lies in combining compact integration with long-term, contactless identification.

With LF and HF variants, multiple sizes and IC configurations, memory options up to 2 Kbits and durable glass encapsulation, HID Glass Tags provide manufacturers and operators with a flexible way to give assets — and, where applicable, animals — a persistent digital identity.

Find the Right Glass Tag for Your Application

Whether the goal is permanent tool identification, component traceability, RTI tracking, automated manufacturing or animal identification, the right RFID configuration depends on the application, installation environment and required read performance.
