HID and Kodaa Scale Mobile Wallet Access at 101 Collins Street
At 101 Collins Street, a landmark multi-tenant office tower in Melbourne, Kodaa and HID have deployed mobile wallet access for thousands of users across more than 35 tenancies. The project shows how digital credentials can replace physical cards without a complete infrastructure overhaul.
Mobile Access Across a Multi-Tenant Office Tower
101 Collins Street is a large commercial office building used by multiple tenant organizations. Its access infrastructure must therefore support different user groups, permissions and building areas while allowing credentials to be issued, changed and revoked efficiently.
The mobile access deployment has been operating for nearly a year. Thousands of tenants and visitors now use credentials stored in their mobile wallets to access building entrances, elevators, lockers and end-of-trip facilities.
Melbourne-based digital consultancy Kodaa delivered the project using HID Mobile Access. HID provides the secure mobile credentials and trusted identity infrastructure, while Kodaa integrates the access process into the building environment.
Existing Access Infrastructure Remains in Place
The deployment did not require a complete replacement of the existing access control infrastructure. Mobile credentials were integrated with the systems already operating in the building.
This is particularly relevant for established commercial properties, where replacing readers, controllers and administrative systems across all access points can create substantial technical and operational disruption.
“The project didn’t require a full infrastructure overhaul,” says Seth Khouri, founder of Kodaa. “The integrated solution is built to work with existing systems and HID ensures modernization without disruption.”
For system integrators, this approach shifts the focus from complete system replacement to compatibility between credentials, readers, access control platforms and tenant administration processes.
Access Rights Move from Cards to Digital Workflows
The deployment also changes how access permissions are administered. Requests, approvals, updates and revocations are processed digitally through a central portal.
Processes that previously depended on producing, distributing or collecting physical cards can now be completed within minutes rather than days. This reduces administrative delays during onboarding, role changes, temporary access and offboarding.
Digital credential lifecycle management is especially relevant in multi-tenant buildings, where access rights frequently change across companies, shared spaces and building services.
One Credential for Multiple Building Services
The mobile credential is stored in the user’s digital wallet and used across several access points. The same credential supports entry to the building, elevator authorization, locker access and end-of-trip facilities.
This creates a more consistent access process while removing the need for a separate plastic card. HID combines the credential with device-level security, while the building operator retains control over authorization and revocation.
For solution providers, the technical requirement extends beyond issuing a credential. Reader compatibility, wallet provisioning, access control integration and reliable lifecycle management must function across all participating tenant and building systems.
A Scalable Model for Commercial Buildings
The 101 Collins Street deployment demonstrates that mobile wallet access can operate at scale in a complex property with thousands of active users and more than 35 tenancies.
It also shows that mobile access does not necessarily require a disruptive infrastructure migration. Existing access systems can remain part of the architecture while digital credentials modernize user interaction and administration.
For property owners and facility managers, the main operational benefits are faster credential processing, reduced dependence on physical cards and centralized control over changing access rights.
