HID and Skanska Introduce Digital Wallet Access Control at Warsaw Office Building
Studio A becomes one of Europe's first large-scale office buildings to use web-based provisioning of Apple Wallet and Google Wallet credentials, eliminating the need for dedicated access apps.
HID, a global provider of trusted identity and access control solutions, and Skanska Commercial Development Europe (CDE) have implemented a fully digital wallet-based access control system at the Studio A office building in Warsaw, Poland.
The deployment combines HID Origo Web Provisioning with Skanska's proprietary StudioApp web application, allowing employees, tenants and guests to receive building access credentials directly in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet without downloading a separate mobile application.
Located in Warsaw's Wola business district, Studio A represents one of Europe's first large-scale commercial deployments to use web provisioning as the standard method for distributing mobile access credentials.
Building Access Without a Dedicated App
Traditional mobile access systems often require users to install building-specific applications, create accounts and complete multiple activation steps. Corporate IT policies can make this process particularly complicated.
At Studio A, the process is significantly simpler. An administrator enters the user's first name, last name and email address. The recipient receives a secure invitation link and adds the digital credential directly to their smartphone wallet.
Once activated, users can unlock authorized doors by holding their smartphone near an NFC-enabled access reader.
The approach removes the need for physical badges and dedicated access applications while maintaining centralized management of digital credentials.
“Our intention was to create an intuitive, secure solution built to scale that responds to the real needs of tenants,” explains Rafał Kot, Technical Quality Expert at Skanska Commercial Development Europe.
HID Origo Connects Wallet Credentials and Building Systems
The solution is based on HID Origo Web Provisioning, a cloud-based platform for issuing and managing digital access credentials.
Skanska's StudioApp serves as the central integration layer, connecting the building's access control and parking systems with the HID Origo cloud infrastructure through a local server.
This architecture enables digital credentials to be issued through a web interface while maintaining real-time integration with the building's access control system.
“Web provisioning is a modern way to distribute digital Apple Wallet and Google Wallet credentials,” explains Kamil Targalski, HID Business Development Manager for Mobile Access.
According to Targalski, the Studio A implementation is among the first European projects to establish web provisioning as the default access method for employees, tenants and guests, enabling simple and automated onboarding.
From Physical Badges to Digital Access Management
Skanska CDE developed the StudioApp integration and became the system's first user, initially deploying it within its Warsaw office before extending access to tenants and guests.
The company is now evaluating similar deployments across other offices internationally.
For property managers, wallet-based access can simplify credential distribution, reduce administrative effort and eliminate the need to maintain a dedicated mobile access application.
The approach also supports a more consistent access experience across different user groups, from permanent employees to temporary visitors.
“Moving away from physical badges toward fully digital and integrated solutions sets a new standard in designing and managing the access lifecycle process of a building or office space,” says Mateusz Gluz, Senior Project Leader at Skanska Commercial Development Europe.
A New Model for Commercial Building Access
The Studio A project demonstrates how cloud-managed digital identities, NFC technology and smartphone wallets can simplify access management in modern commercial buildings.
By combining HID Origo with Skanska's building management integration, the deployment offers an alternative to conventional physical badges and app-dependent mobile credentials.
For commercial property operators managing multiple buildings and user groups, web provisioning creates opportunities to standardize access processes, accelerate onboarding and reduce software management requirements.
