Event Recap: Unpacking The Future Of Digital Supply Chains

Last Friday (27-06-2025) we hosted a gathering for a group of supply chain managers, logistics leads and innovation specialists to explore a shared ambition: building a smarter, digital supply chain.

The session was more than a simple presentation. It was a deep dive into the why, how and what of asset digitalization, grounded in real-world examples, technical transparency and hard-earned lessons from the field.

We shared the journey behind our IoT-as-a-Service approach: how we moved from early pilot projects to building a scalable, modular solution that supports every layer of the supply chain; from pallets and roll cages to warehouses and retail locations.

Connected Load Carrier didn’t start with a product. It started with a critical question we needed to answer:

“How can we enable end-to-end visibility, across the entire supply chain, in a way that works for all of its stakeholders, not just separate ones?”

Why IoT-as-a-Service works (When done right)

Many supply chain solutions promise digital transformation. Few deliver it in a way that actually works for high-volume, complex supply chains.

At Connected Load Carrier, we believe the value doesn’t lie in selling devices or dashboards, but in results. Our IoT-as-a-Service model is designed to take away the friction: no high upfront costs, no IT overload, no disconnected components.

What makes our approach different?

Many companies underestimate the complexity of IoT until it’s too late. Buying trackers and installing them is one thing. Getting them to work reliably at scale across different asset types, environments and use cases, is another one entirely.

That level of understanding starts with the fact that we build the hardware ourselves. From trackers and beacons to solar-powered modules, our sister company Dutch IoT Solutions develops and owns the full IP stack. This gives us complete control, not just over how devices work, but how they behave in the real world. Our trackers aren’t one-size-fits-all; they’re fully configurable and adaptable, designed to reflect the unique motion patterns of each asset type.

Configurations include:

Acceleration threshold (G-force):
Set how much force triggers a movement event.
Movement trigger time:
Define how long and how often movement must occur before it’s classified as relevant.
Movement stop time:
Specify when an asset is considered stationary, even if it’s still experiencing minor vibrations or movements.

We also match each device type to the use case and asset value. Whether it's RFID, beacon or full GPS, we apply the right tech in the right part of the chain. That means low-value assets don’t carry expensive SIMs and high-value assets get the detailed tracking they require.

At one point during this session, a participant asked why we offer so many different types of tracking devices. The answer is simple: cost structure. In high-volume supply chains, recurring costs are a dealbreaker. A tracker with a SIM card on every asset would be far too expensive at scale. That’s why we invest in modular infrastructure that allows us to reduce recurring costs while still delivering the right level of visibility per asset type. It's a strategic balance between functionality and total cost of ownership.

What we demonstrated

During the session we also gave a live demo using real assets. This included roll cages, cool containers, gitterboxes and different types of pallets. We showed how easily they can be equipped with our plug-and-play tracking technology.

Highlights from the demo include:

- Real-time standstill detection
- Asset localization via sub-GHz beaconing
- Indoor tracking with long- and short-range base stations
- Easy dwell time and ETA tracking

At one point, a participant asked whether the system could identify if assets go missing at the same locations during transport.

Our answer: absolutely. Our platform (The 360° Asset Control Tower) picks up on recurring loss patterns. Especially in sectors like pooling or fmcg (Fast moving consumer goods), where assets move between multiple sites, this kind of insight helps you not only track but also understand where and why losses occur. This way you can take action before it becomes costly.

Connected Load Carrier proves supply chain digitalization can be both practical and powerful, even in complex, high-volume environments.

What’s next?

It was great to see that many attendees were not just curious but genuinely ready to take action. Asset digitalization is no longer a future ambition; it's a necessary step for companies that want to stay agile, compliant and competitive.

One of the key takeaways from this session was that true impact in the supply chain doesn’t come from working alone. The real value lies in collaboration across the chain, not in building isolated systems or digitizing just one part in a silo. Every party has a role to play and progress happens when those links connect and reinforce each other.
