Turck Q150: Compact UHF RFID reader with EtherCAT and multi-protocol Ethernet
The Q150 from Turck is a compact UHF RFID reader with an integrated Ethernet interface. The IP67-rated reader is designed for individual reading points in industrial applications and can be integrated directly into PC- or PLC-based Ethernet networks.
Compact UHF RFID reader for industrial Ethernet networks
With the Q150 UHF RFID reader, Turck offers a compact device for industrial identification applications. The reader is designed for individual RFID read points, such as in intralogistics, the automotive industry, the packaging industry, and food and beverage applications.
The Q150 communicates directly with PC or PLC systems in industrial Ethernet networks. No additional interface is required for this. This allows the reader to reduce hardware complexity, particularly in logistics systems and decentralized identification applications.
EtherCAT or Multiprotocol Version
Turck offers the Q150 in two variants. The Q150-EC features an integrated EtherCAT interface. According to Turck, it is the world’s only UHF RFID reader with an integrated EtherCAT interface function.
The multiprotocol version, the Q150-EN, supports Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP. Thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE), this variant requires no additional power supply. This simplifies installation and wiring, especially in compact machine and conveyor technology applications.
Easy integration into the control environment
The Q150 can be integrated into the control environment without additional function block programming. Out of the box, the reader provides a U-interface as a simple data interface, simplifying communication with higher-level PC or PLC systems.
The Turck Automation Suite (TAS) facilitates the commissioning of the Q150 through visualization and simulation functions for RFID applications. This allows the appropriate parameters for the respective read point to be determined more quickly and the reader to be integrated more efficiently into existing control environments.

The TN-UHF-Q150-EU-EN reader delivers integrated UHF RFID identification solutions tailored for industrial Ethernet networks.
For individual read points and short to medium ranges
The Q150 is particularly suitable for applications where reliable identification at individual read points is required. With a maximum output power of up to 500 mW, the reader is designed for short to medium read distances.
In addition to the integrated antenna, the Q150 features an additional antenna port. This allows for the connection of external UHF RFID antennas, for example, to enable two-sided detection on a conveyor belt.
Decentralized Data Processing in the Reader
Despite its compact design, the Q150 offers computing power for read and write processes as well as for decentralized data preprocessing. This allows data to be processed at the read point before it is forwarded to higher-level systems.
The integrated antenna achieves a sensitivity of -80 dBm. The polarization is switchable between RHCP and LHCP. This helps reduce potential dead spots that may arise from reflections or other physical effects.
Robust design for industrial environments
The Q150 is rated IP67 and designed for ambient temperatures ranging from -30 to +50 degrees Celsius. Two integrated Ethernet ports enable direct connection to higher-level control systems.
Following the EU version, versions for North America and China are also expected to be approved later this year.
Relevance for system integrators and users
For system integrators, the Q150 is particularly interesting where UHF RFID read points are to be integrated directly into existing Ethernet architectures without additional interface hardware. The combination of a compact design, industrial Ethernet protocols, an optional external antenna, and decentralized data processing supports lean RFID architectures on machines, conveyor lines, and logistics points.
For users, the reader can be a cost-effective solution when individual read points need to be reliably automated without the complexity of a larger RFID gateway or additional interface modules.
