TÖNNJES presents hybrid chip for secure vehicle registration at Intertraffic 2026
Hybrid chip combines RAIN RFID and NFC for secure digital vehicle registration
TÖNNJES will be presenting new solutions for secure and connected vehicle identification at Intertraffic 2026 (March 10–13, Amsterdam). At booth 01.551, the company will be showcasing its latest developments in digital vehicle registration and authentication in live demonstrations.
The focus is on a new hybrid chip developed in collaboration with Swiss semiconductor manufacturer EM Microelectronic. The dual-frequency tag combines RAIN RFID (UHF) for fast identification at a distance with NFC for convenient checks via smartphone. The solution supports applications ranging from automatic vehicle identification in heavy traffic to targeted roadside checks.
For government applications, the hybrid chip offers expanded memory structures and AES-128-based authentication. This allows vehicle data to be managed securely while enabling flexible processes for registration, control, and verification.
The hybrid chip is designed for globally deployable RAIN RFID vehicle identification and remains compatible with existing infrastructures. In addition, the architecture enables individual implementation of UHF or NFC functionality – with the option of upgrading transponders later if regulatory or operational requirements change.
In combination with TÖNNJES solutions such as IDePLATE, IDeSTIX, and the IDeSTIX Headlamp Tag, the new chip generation expands the company's modular portfolio for secure vehicle registration systems worldwide.
