NXP Semiconductors has introduced the NTAG X DNA, a new Type 4 secure connected NFC tag designed to enable fast, secure authentication and data exchange. Compatible with any NFC-enabled mobile device, the NTAG X DNA combines 16KB of high-density memory, 848 kbps data rate, and secure unique NFC (SUN) authentication to support anti-counterfeiting, product transparency, and compliance with upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) regulations.

What’s New

The NTAG X DNA NFC tag enables seamless connectivity and verification of devices or products via NFC or I²C interface. It’s engineered to:

  • Authenticate products quickly and securely
  • Facilitate secure mobile data transfer
  • Help manufacturers comply with EU DPP requirements by 2027
  • Support secure applications in healthcare, smart home, mobile accessories, industrial use cases, and more

Why It Matters

With growing concerns around product authenticity and regulatory transparency, the NTAG X DNA provides a secure, consumer-friendly solution. By storing and delivering product information digitally, brands can:

  • Combat counterfeit goods
  • Improve consumer trust and experience
  • Prepare for DPP regulations with a digital record of a product’s origin, composition, and lifecycle
“Secure connected NFC tags improve the consumer experience, with dual-interface functionality that makes device information, authentication, and onboarding easily accessible with a single tap. Supported by NXP’s EdgeLock 2GO credential delivery service, the NTAG X DNA offers a highly secure authentication experience across healthcare, smart IoT, and gaming applications.” — Alasdair Ross, Senior Director, NFC IoT Security, NXP Semiconductors
