Detailed product information
Low-Power UWB Chipset for IoT Trackers and Tags
The Trimension® SR040 is NXP’s ultra-wideband (UWB) chipset designed for battery-powered IoT devices, especially compact products like UWB trackers and tags. It is optimized for low-power operation and for reducing the number of external components, making it a strong fit for coin cell designs where size, cost, and battery life matter.
To speed up development and ensure compatibility across the UWB ecosystem, the SR040 integrates NXP’s FiRa™ MAC, supporting interoperability and a faster time-to-market for UWB-enabled products. The chipset can also be paired with Bluetooth® Low Energy or other connectivity controllers in the same device, which is a common approach when Bluetooth is used for discovery or connectivity while UWB handles precise ranging and positioning.
In typical tracking deployments, the Trimension SR040 is used as a Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) tag. In this mode, the device transmits short “blink” packets, which are received by multiple anchors in the environment. The infrastructure calculates the tag’s position based on timing differences between anchor receptions, enabling accurate indoor localization without requiring the tag to maintain continuous two-way communication.
With its focus on energy efficiency, interoperability, and simple integration, the Trimension SR040 is a practical choice for scalable UWB tracking solutions in industrial and IoT environments.
