Ostermundigen/Zurich, September 3, 2026. KABLAN AG, a Swiss provider of cable and connectivity solutions for energy, industrial, and infrastructure applications, is introducing connected asset tracking for its cable drums together with Truvami, Swisscom Broadcast’s business unit for tracking solutions. The system provides updated location and movement data to improve return logistics, reduce drum losses, and increase the reuse of existing cable drums.

Closing a Visibility Gap in Cable Drum Logistics

Cable drums are valuable reusable assets, but they can be difficult to track once they leave a supplier’s own logistics environment. After delivery, KABLAN cable drums may remain at customer sites for extended periods before they are emptied and returned.

Without current information on their location and status, determining where individual drums are located can require additional coordination. Missing visibility can also delay returns and increase the risk that drums are lost from the reusable asset pool.

KABLAN is addressing this gap together with Truvami.

Connected Trackers Detect Movement and Location Changes

Truvami Tag XL trackers are mounted directly on the cable drums. The connected devices automatically detect movements and changes in location, giving KABLAN an updated overview of where individual drums are located.

This makes it possible to follow how long drums remain in use and when they return to KABLAN. Instead of relying solely on manual coordination after delivery, location information becomes part of the logistics process.

For operators of returnable transport assets, this type of asset-level visibility can be particularly relevant when equipment circulates between a supplier, multiple customer locations, and the return logistics network.

Asset Tracking Supports a Reusable Drum Cycle

KABLAN collects empty cable drums after use so they can be reused for subsequent cable deliveries. The speed and reliability of this return cycle directly influence how efficiently the existing drum inventory can be utilized.

Greater transparency about the location of drums can help KABLAN identify assets that remain at customer sites for longer periods and improve planning for their return. Increasing the utilization of the existing pool can also reduce the need for additional cable drums.

Sustainability and logistics efficiency therefore become closely connected: better asset visibility supports reuse while helping KABLAN manage available resources more effectively.

“Our customers expect reliable delivery processes and high product availability. At the same time, the responsible use of resources is very important to us. That is why we invest specifically in digital solutions that make our processes more transparent and efficient. With Truvami, we are creating the foundation for better tracking the use and return of our cable drums and for further strengthening the quality of our service,” says Tom Frey, Head of Marketing and Sales at KABLAN AG.

“Together with KABLAN, we are demonstrating how existing processes can be pragmatically enhanced through connected technology. Transparent location data enables better planning in day-to-day operations and helps companies deploy their resources more effectively,” says Chiara Koopmans, Managing Director of Truvami.

Rollout Has Started

The first cable drums equipped with Truvami trackers are already in operation. KABLAN plans to gradually connect additional drums as it continues to digitalize its logistics processes.

The project illustrates a broader Wireless IoT use case: bringing reusable industrial assets into digital logistics workflows even when those assets spend significant periods outside a company’s own facilities.
