In early 2023, the Millennium Business and Event Center in Lausanne-Crissier deployed 1,500 MClimate Flood Sensor LoRaWAN devices to protect its 50,000 m², 12-floor complex from costly water damage.

About MClimate

MClimate is a European manufacturer of smart building solutions, specializing in energy efficiency, environmental monitoring, and preventive maintenance. Its portfolio of LoRaWAN devices is designed for large-scale deployments, offering long-range wireless connectivity, low energy consumption, and reliable data transmission.

LoRaWAN at the Core of Prevention

LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology enables the sensors to transmit real-time flood alerts over long distances with minimal power usage. This makes it ideal for large facilities like Millennium, where uninterrupted coverage and low maintenance are essential.

Each MClimate Flood Sensor is equipped with a 3-pin detection system that triggers an alert within seconds of water contact. Notifications are sent via multiple channels - email, SMS, and push messages - to ensure rapid response. The devices also feature:

  • Anti-tamper button for interference detection

  • Rubber-sealed casing allowing them to float and function when submerged

  • Built-in buzzer for local audible alerts

  • Up to 10 years of battery life depending on configuration

Centralized Management Across 50,000 m²

Millennium’s unified IT network integrates the LoRaWAN system into its central building management platform. This allows the facility team to monitor all 1,500 sensors in real time, identify incidents instantly, and dispatch maintenance teams without delay.

Results

Since deployment, the LoRaWAN flood detection network has:

  • Provided immediate detection of water leaks

  • Enabled fast intervention through multi-channel alerts

  • Reduced the risk of operational downtime

  • Offered long-term reliability with low energy demand

By combining smart sensor technology with the scalability and efficiency of LoRaWAN, Millennium has set a benchmark for proactive water damage prevention in large commercial buildings.
