With the RFline E4, iDTRONIC brings long-range UHF RFID to automated outbound shipping. Pallets, containers, and packages are detected simultaneously as they pass through an RFID gate. The data can be transferred directly to existing IT systems via API.

RFID Tracking During Passage

In the outbound area, shipped goods must be identified quickly and reliably without slowing down the material flow at the loading dock. If pallets and packages are scanned individually using handheld scanners, this creates additional steps and potential gaps in shipping documentation.

An RFID gate equipped with the iDTRONIC RFline E4 UHF reader automatically captures the transponders on tagged load carriers and goods as they pass through the reading zone. Bulk capture allows multiple RFID tags to be read in a single operation. Manual individual scans are eliminated, while the movement of goods is documented directly at the transition from the warehouse to shipping.

Adjust the Reading Range to the Gate and Goods Flow

The long-range reader supports the ISO 18000-63 and EPC Gen2 V2 standards. It features an integrated antenna as well as three ports for external antennas. This allows the RFID gate to be adapted to the width of the gate, the position of the transponders, the flow of goods, and the structural conditions.

RS232/485, TCP/IP, and CANbus (per SAE J1939) are available for system integration. The various interfaces facilitate the integration of the reader into existing industrial, automation, and logistics architectures.

Configuring the read range is particularly important to ensure that only the goods actually being transported through the gate are detected. Antenna positioning, transmission power, and transponder selection must therefore be tailored to the specific process.

Integrate RFID Data Directly into Existing Systems

The captured RFID data can be transferred via an API to existing warehouse management, ERP, or shipping solutions. As a result, identification is not limited to the read point but can be used immediately for bookkeeping, inventory updates, or the monitoring of outbound shipments.

Automated capture and direct data integration improve transparency regarding which pallets, containers, or packages have left the warehouse. At the same time, the manual data entry workload at heavily trafficked outbound gates is reduced.

Additional RFID Processes on the Premises

In addition to goods receipt and goods issue, iDTRONIC cites the automated identification of trucks, transport vehicles, and industrial trucks at access roads, barriers, and warehouse gates as another application area for UHF RFID.

Forklifts can also be integrated into the RFID infrastructure. The RFline U1 can scan the area in front of the forks and automatically detect which load carrier is being picked up or set down. Additionally, tagged shelf locations or storage zones enable assignment to the respective storage location.

Relevance for Integrators and Logistics Operators

For system integrators, the RFline series offers various options for adapting stationary read points, antennas, and backend interfaces to the specific material flow. Logistics operators can thus deploy RFID specifically at transfer points where speed, complete detection, and direct system posting are critical.
