Next-Level RFID: Checkpoint Integrates NXP UCODE X into Smart Labels
Checkpoint Systems, a global leader in RFID solutions for retail and industry, is strengthening its innovation leadership in contactless identification by integrating the new RAIN RFID NXP UCODE® X chip into its smart labels.
Designed by NXP Semiconductors, UCODE X brings enhanced performance, configurable memory, and broad integration flexibility, further expanding Checkpoint’s RFID label portfolio to meet evolving customer requirements.
Innovation aligned with real-world retail and supply chain needs
By adopting UCODE X from its market launch, Checkpoint underlines its focus on staying ahead of market developments and delivering RFID solutions that support operational efficiency at scale.
The integration enables measurable performance gains, with improvements of up to -3 dBm in some models. This translates into extended read ranges and more reliable data capture for key use cases such as inventory management, product traceability, and logistics optimization.
Checkpoint also reports a major validation milestone: several RFID inlays equipped with the new UCODE X chip have achieved ARC certification from the Auburn University RFID Lab, positioning the solutions for trusted deployment in demanding retail environments.
UCODE X: built for next-generation RAIN RFID performance
UCODE X is engineered for the increasing requirements of RAIN RFID applications. The chip combines high read/write sensitivity with fully configurable EPC and user memory, enabling greater flexibility for tailored use cases.
It is compliant with EPC Gen2 standards and relies on non-proprietary features to support smooth integration across widely used RFID inlay formats. The result is faster, more accurate reads, especially in challenging RF conditions.
“Incorporating the most advanced technologies into our smart labels is central to how we deliver high-performance, reliable RFID solutions tailored to our customers’ needs,” said Inge Fleuren, Global Product Solutions Manager RFID, Checkpoint Systems. “The integration of the UCODE X chip reflects this commitment, and we are proud to build on the recognized expertise of our partner NXP.”
“With UCODE X, we are expanding what is possible in RAIN RFID,” said Ralf Kodritsch, Senior Director, UCODE RFID at NXP. “Together with Checkpoint and their market-ready solutions, we will accelerate adoption and advance the mission to tag everything with UCODE X, bringing high-performance, standards-based solutions to more products and markets.”
Rollout starting in 2026
Checkpoint Systems plans to roll out the NXP UCODE X chip across several solutions starting in 2026, reinforcing its role in advanced RFID inlay and label design. With continued investment in innovation, Checkpoint aims to help customers build supply chains that are more connected, efficient, and sustainable.
