AIM and Think WIoT combine expertise for the 2025 conference
WIoT tomorrow 2025, taking place on October 22 and 23 in Wiesbaden, is Europe's leading trade event for wireless IoT technologies. From hardware and software to complete solutions, visitors can expect a focused overview. A strong partner in the conference program is the international association AIM, which promotes global standards for automatic identification and data capture (Auto-ID).
AIM stands for Automatic Identification and Mobility and, as a global industry association, brings together the knowledge of companies that develop technologies for automatic identification and data capture. These include RFID, NFC, optical readable media (such as barcodes, QR codes, vision), RTLS, and many other standards and solutions.
Together with the Think WIOT Group, AIM is actively shaping the conference program for WIoT Tomorrow. We spoke with Wolfgang Weber, founding member of AIM-D e.V., and Olaf Wilmsmeier, board member at AIM-D e.V., about the role of AIM, current challenges, and the significance of WIoT Tomorrow.
Interview
Mr. Weber, Mr. Wilmsmeier, the world of IoT is growing rapidly. Why do you think WIoT Tomorrow is a must-attend event?
Wolfgang Weber: In my opinion, WIoT Tomorrow is unique in Germany, and I would even say in Europe.
Here, visitors get a clearly focused overview of everything that is relevant in the field of wireless IoT technologies – from low-power solutions to 5G. New products are presented, but also proven technologies and solutions that are already being used successfully in practice.
This combination makes the event so valuable because visitors can identify trends and take away concrete approaches.
Olaf Wilmsmeier: I see it the same way. For executives and project managers, WIoT tomorrow is an excellent platform for obtaining specific information. Precisely because many traditional trade shows are very broad in scope, WIoT tomorrow stands out—it focuses specifically on wireless IoT.
You can deepen your own knowledge, avoid wrong decisions, and exchange ideas with experts.
AIM is a close partner of WIoT tomorrow. What role does the association play in organizing the conference?
Wolfgang Weber: AIM contributes the combined expertise of its members.
Our task is to work with the Think WIOT Group to design a highly topical and practical program.
We cover topics that are strategically relevant – from standards and regulations to new technologies that are just finding their way into industry.
Olaf Wilmsmeier: Knowledge transfer is also an important aspect. Our members have in-depth technical expertise and practical experience. The conference offers the perfect platform to share this knowledge and create synergy effects at the same time – for example, when different technologies are brought together to enable new solutions. This benefits not only the participants, but also the entire industry.
What distinguishes WIoT Tomorrow from other trade events?
Wolfgang Weber: The biggest difference is the focus.
While many trade fairs take a very broad approach, WIoT Tomorrow focuses exclusively on wireless IoT. This makes the event clear and efficient – you can find exactly the contacts, technologies, and information you are looking for.
Olaf Wilmsmeier: Added to this is the combination of exhibition and conference. At the exhibition, you can experience hardware and solutions firsthand, while the conference provides the theoretical and strategic foundations. This mix ensures that visitors not only see what is possible, but also understand how it can be implemented.
Which topics and trends will be particularly important this year?
Wolfgang Weber: We are currently seeing strong momentum in topics such as Industry 4.0, standardization, and the integration of different technologies. In addition, sustainability and energy-efficient solutions are playing an increasingly important role.
At WIoT tomorrow, we will address precisely these topics—with practical examples and in-depth expert presentations.
Olaf Wilmsmeier: Another trend is the increasing networking of systems. Companies are no longer relying solely on individual technologies, but on holistic IoT strategies that combine different solutions. New EU Commission regulations in the area of cybersecurity, such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), also require improved products and strategies in this area.
And while we're on the subject of new regulations from Brussels, without auto-ID technology, there would be no Digital Product Passport (DPP) – which is an important component of the European Green Deal.
Why is it worthwhile for companies to become members of AIM?
Wolfgang Weber: AIM offers companies a strong network in which they can exchange ideas, develop standards together, and learn from each other.
We represent the interests of our members at the national and international level and ensure that technologies remain compatible and future-proof. This exchange is crucial, especially in times of rapid technological development.
Olaf Wilmsmeier: Membership also gives companies direct access to important information – for example, about regulations, market developments, innovative fields of application, or new standards. And, of course, they benefit from the visibility that comes with a joint presence at events such as WIoT tomorrow.
