KATHREIN Solutions Transfers CrossTalk RFID Software to IoT Invent
KATHREIN Solutions will transfer its CrossTalk RFID software to development partner IoT Invent GmbH on July 1, 2026. The move is intended to secure continued maintenance and product development while KATHREIN Solutions concentrates more strongly on hardware-oriented RFID solutions.
Software Ownership Moves to Long-Term Development Partner
KATHREIN Solutions is transferring the CrossTalk RFID platform to IoT Invent GmbH, a long-standing software development partner of the RFID reader specialist.
The transition takes effect on July 1, 2026. According to KATHREIN Solutions, IoT Invent will assume responsibility for the platform’s long-term maintenance, support and further technical development.
CrossTalk is designed for automatic object identification and data capture. The software has been developed and refined over many years through cooperation between the two companies.
KATHREIN Solutions Refocuses on Hardware
The transfer forms part of a strategic realignment at KATHREIN Solutions. The company plans to concentrate more strongly on its core expertise in hardware-oriented RFID solutions.
Thomas Brunner, Managing Director of KATHREIN Solutions, said the transfer creates a long-term perspective for the product and its users while supporting the company’s revised strategic direction.
For system integrators and solution providers, the change separates the future development of the software platform from KATHREIN Solutions’ hardware-focused portfolio. Both companies state that they intend to continue working closely together.
CrossTalk Returns to Its Development Origins
IoT Invent originally developed the CrossTalk RFID software and continued to enhance it in collaboration with KATHREIN Solutions.
The company was founded in Ismaning in 2020 and employs developers and engineers with experience from Nofilis and KATHREIN Solutions. According to IoT Invent, the team brings more than 20 years of experience in identification and localization applications.
Its activities include industrial localization solutions as well as in-house hardware design, firmware development and software engineering. The transfer therefore places CrossTalk with the company that has been closely involved in its underlying development.
Maintenance and Support Will Continue
Existing CrossTalk customers are expected to be transferred in close coordination between KATHREIN Solutions and IoT Invent.
Both companies state that maintenance and support services will continue. Customers will receive assistance from their designated contacts to manage the organizational and technical transition.
This continuity is particularly relevant for operators using CrossTalk in productive identification and data-capture environments. Such systems are often integrated with RFID readers, enterprise software and operational processes, making predictable support and compatibility important during a change of ownership.
Relevance for Integrators and End Users
For integrators, the transfer establishes a clearer division of responsibilities. IoT Invent will oversee the software platform, while KATHREIN Solutions will place greater emphasis on RFID hardware and related solutions.
Existing users will need to review future contractual, support and development arrangements with their respective contacts. However, the announced continuation of cooperation between both companies is intended to reduce disruption for current installations.
The transaction does not mark the discontinuation of CrossTalk. Instead, it transfers the software to its original development environment, with IoT Invent taking responsibility for its continued operation and evolution.
