IDCRAFT Brings Chainway MC80 With Processor-Integrated UHF RFID to DACH
The Chainway MC80 combines UHF RFID, 5G and enterprise mobile computing in a compact handheld. Distributed by IDCRAFT in the DACH region, the device uses Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Q-6690 processor, which integrates the UHF RFID reader directly into the chipset.
UHF RFID Integrated Into the Application Processor
Neuhofen, Germany, August 3, 2026. IDCRAFT GmbH has added the Chainway MC80 mobile computer to its portfolio for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The Android-based 5G handheld introduces a new device architecture in which the UHF RFID reader is integrated directly into the application processor instead of being implemented as a separate hardware module.
At the center of the MC80 is the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-6690. According to Qualcomm, it is the world’s first enterprise mobile processor with a fully integrated UHF RFID reader. The reader supports RAIN RFID according to ISO/IEC 18000-63 and is Gen2X-capable.
The processor centrally coordinates RFID with 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and optional Ultra-Wideband connectivity. Eliminating the conventional add-on RFID module enables a device depth of 15.5 millimeters and a weight of 283 grams.
Android 16, NFC and Optional Barcode Scanning
The Chainway MC80 runs Android 16 and is designed to meet Google Android Enterprise Recommended requirements. Chainway specifies an upgrade path through Android 20.
Its octa-core processor operates at up to 2.0 GHz, with an optional configuration reaching 2.9 GHz.
Additional identification and data-capture capabilities include:
NFC according to ISO/IEC 14443 Type A and B
Support for ISO/IEC 15693 transponders
SoftPOS support for contactless payment applications
A 50-megapixel camera
Optional Zebra SE-series or Chainway CM60 2D barcode engines
Optional UWB for centimeter-level indoor positioning
The MC80 has been tested according to MIL-STD-810H for drops from 1.5 meters. With the optional protective rubber boot, the specified drop resistance increases to 2.0 meters.
Depending on the configuration, IP65 or IP67 protection is available. The specified operating temperature range extends from -20 to +50 degrees Celsius.
A New Architecture for RFID Handhelds
“Chip-level integration is the first real architecture shift in RFID handhelds in years,” says Patrick Kochendörfer, Managing Director of IDCRAFT GmbH. “The old equation was always the same: if you wanted UHF, you got a thicker, heavier device. That coupling is now dissolving.”
Moving RFID functionality into the main processor reduces the space normally required for a separate reader module. It also allows RFID, mobile communications, barcode scanning and positioning functions to be managed within a common processing architecture.
For users in logistics, industry, retail, healthcare and field service, this can enable compact mobile terminals that combine several identification and communication technologies in one device.
EMEA Version Available Through IDCRAFT
The Chainway MC80 is available in a version for the EMEA market. Chainway will present the device at IOTE 2026 in Shenzhen, taking place from August 26 to 28, 2026.
IDCRAFT supports customers with device selection, preliminary testing using application-specific transponders and the provision of suitable RFID tags.
