In the timber construction industry, precision and real-time access to designs are crucial. Van de Vin, a leading manufacturer of hardwood window and door frames, faced a challenge:

large A0 project drawings had to be manually distributed and updated across the factory floor. Changes during production risked costly errors if employees worked from outdated drawings.

RFID Direct developed a custom RFID solution integrated with Van de Vin’s Matrix ERP system. Each wooden frame receives a standardized UHF RFID dowel tag. Custom scan heads read both barcode and RFID in a single motion, providing instant feedback via LED indicators and ensuring real-time ERP updates. At every workstation, operators access the latest drawings digitally, eliminating paper and reducing mistakes.

Results

  • €30,000 annual savings on paper and printing

  • Fast, reliable processing under three seconds per item

  • 100% assurance of using the latest drawings

  • Full traceability and process transparency

With the system in place, Van de Vin is preparing for real-time production monitoring and future use of RFID tags as lifelong product passports, supporting circular construction and smarter maintenance.
