The new AD Visi range combines long-range tracking, tamper detection and ultra-low-power Bluetooth technology in flexible, printable labels for high-value shipments.

Avery Dennison, a global materials science and digital identification company specializing in intelligent labeling solutions, including RFID and Bluetooth Low Energy technologies, has introduced AD Visi, a new range of Active Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) labels designed to improve shipment visibility, security and traceability across global supply chains.

The product line combines Avery Dennison's intelligent label manufacturing expertise with InPlay's NanoBeacon™ chip technology. Less than 1 mm thick, the flexible, printable labels use non-lithium printed batteries to integrate wireless tracking directly into shipping labels.

Designed for high-value goods, time-critical shipments and returnable transport items, AD Visi expands Avery Dennison's digital identification portfolio alongside UHF RFID and passive Bluetooth technologies.

Two Active BLE Labels for Tracking and Security

The initial range includes two products, available for order in late 2026:

  • AD Visi Way: An active BLE label for Real-Time Location System (RTLS) applications, providing continuous location information throughout the supply chain.

  • AD Visi Secure: Combines RTLS tracking with an integrated tamper-evidence loop, enabling time- and location-stamped identification of potential package interference.

Both labels feature InPlay's ultra-low-power NanoBeacon technology, wireless activation and a reading distance of up to 100 meters. They operate between -30°C and +60°C and can be applied to parcels, pallets and reusable transport packaging.

Additional AD Visi products are planned for early 2027.

Continuous Visibility Without Manual Scanning

Unlike passive RAIN UHF RFID, which requires energy from a reader, active BLE labels use an integrated power source to broadcast signals automatically.

Compatible receiving infrastructure can collect these signals without manually scanning individual shipments, supporting automated tracking, shipment monitoring and tamper detection.

For logistics providers, this creates opportunities to improve visibility during transportation, detect handling irregularities and document shipment movements. Location accuracy and monitoring capabilities depend on the receiving infrastructure and software.

Complementing UHF RFID and Passive Bluetooth

AD Visi expands Avery Dennison's digital identification portfolio rather than replacing existing RFID solutions.

UHF RFID remains a cost-effective technology for large-scale inventory management and item-level identification. Passive BLE supports long-term deployments, while Active BLE addresses applications requiring continuous wireless broadcasting, extended read range and additional security information.

Jason Wu, co-founder and CEO of InPlay, highlights growing demand for real-time, long-range visibility and security for critical assets. The partnership combines InPlay's low-power semiconductor technology with Avery Dennison's large-scale label manufacturing capabilities.

Advancing Intelligent Supply Chain Labels

By integrating wireless communication and printed batteries into flexible labels, Avery Dennison aims to provide advanced tracking functionality using fewer materials than conventional tracking devices.

Mathieu De Backer, Vice President, Intelligent Labels Innovation at Avery Dennison, emphasizes the importance of offering flexible digital identification solutions that support more dependable and resilient supply chains.

With AD Visi, Avery Dennison brings active wireless tracking into a printable label format, opening new possibilities for monitoring valuable shipments, protecting goods and improving end-to-end supply chain visibility.
