Zinergy: Paper-thin, flexible printed batteries

Zinergy is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of printed, flexible batteries for smart labels, tags and wearable devices. Our in-house battery design and test experts enable rapid product development and volume production timescales.

Our batteries are completely safe, being lithium-free, and can be transported by air and sea without regulatory constraint or documentation. Moreover, our batteries can be disposed of in normal household waste. They can be torn, punctured and cut without fear of self-igniting.

We manufacture flexible batteries to power all wireless technologies, from active RFID, to Bluetooth™, Sigfox, LoRa and LTE cellular communications. We also power a range of sensors, including GNSS geopositioning, temperature, humidity, movement, light and more.

We have complete control over our battery materials and construction, developing the chemistries and manufacturing processes in-house. All our production processes are controlled under ISO 9001:2015.

Vision

Zinergy aims to power a connected world in which ubiquitous information improves lives. We help provide real time visibility of objects transported through complex logistics and cold chain supply chains, allowing shrinkage to be reduced, operational efficiencies achieved, and food wastage reduced. We help provide power to wearable technologies, increasing user comfort and wearability, while providing continuous long-term health data.

Who we are

Zinergy was spun out of the University of Cambridge in 2015 by scientists working in the Electronics, Power and Energy Conversion (EPEC) group of the Engineering Department. Prior to spinning out, Zinergy’s founders had performed research on supercapacitors and batteries for global corporations including Nokia and Dyson.

Over the last 10 years, Zinergy has grown from a small R&D operation to a 50+ people strong manufacturing operation, being the only player in the industry with large volume capability, whilst maintaining a continuous innovation edge.
