Cybersecurity Expansion for Internet-Connected Radio Equipment

The European Committee for Standardization CEN and the European Standardization Organization CENELEC have published the standard documents EN 18031-1:2024 to EN 18031-3:2024. These documents cover the common cybersecurity requirements for radio equipment and are an extension of the topic of cybersecurity within the framework of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).

Technical Specifications for Radio Equipment

EN 18031-1:2024 to EN 18031-3:2024 contain technical specifications for radio equipment that communicates via the Internet. This includes both electrical and electronic products with direct or indirect Internet access and connection. These technical specifications describe the cyber security requirements for these devices.

With these documents, hardware manufacturers can make the necessary preparations for the respective cybersecurity measures in advance. CEN and CENELC are currently working with the EU Commission to finalize the standard documents as a harmonized standard. Slight adjustments to the EN 18031-1:2024 are expected. The documents will be available to order and purchase in the next few days.
