Detailed product information

RFID Labels Designed for Metal

The HID IQ On-Metal Label family provides compact, self-adhesive RFID labels specifically designed for identifying and tracking metallic assets. The portfolio includes both NFC and RAIN UHF variants, allowing organizations to select the technology according to the required interaction, reading distance and asset-management process.

A flexible shielding construction enables the labels to operate when attached directly to metal, including flat or curved surfaces. HID lists applications including laptops, liquid containers, pipes and machinery, making the family suitable for IT asset management as well as industrial identification.

NFC or RAIN UHF

The NFC versions comply with NFC Forum Tag Type 2 and can be read using compatible NFC smartphones and devices. The RAIN UHF models are available for ETSI and FCC frequency regions, depending on the individual product.

This allows different identification concepts to be implemented within the same product family. NFC supports deliberate close-range interaction, while RAIN UHF enables identification from greater distances and bulk reading with suitable reader infrastructure.

The portfolio spans multiple sizes and performance classes. Depending on the RAIN UHF model, HID specifies free-space read distances of up to 15 meters using a 2 W ERP reader, although actual performance depends on the selected label, mounting conditions, reader configuration and RF environment.

Designed for IT Asset Tracking

HID specifically positions the IQ On-Metal Labels for tracking IT assets in data centers and offices, including computers and other equipment. Other potential environments include manufacturing, warehouses, hospitals and laboratories.

For laptops and other electronic equipment, the on-metal design addresses an important technical challenge: metallic surfaces can significantly affect the performance of conventional RFID labels.

The labels can therefore support processes such as asset identification, inventory, checkpoint detection and lifecycle documentation without requiring bulky hard tags.

Printable and Easy to Integrate

Most IQ On-Metal Labels can be supplied on reels and processed using compatible RFID label printers. Depending on the version, companies can add logos, barcodes, QR codes or text alongside the RFID functionality. Custom printing and encoding options are also available.
The labels use a self-adhesive mounting method, making them suitable for deployment across large numbers of existing assets without requiring mechanical mounting.

Anti-Tamper Option for High-Value Assets

For applications requiring additional protection against tag transfer, the portfolio includes the IQ Secure OM 800 Anti-Tamper Label.

This compact RAIN RFID tag is intended for high-value assets, office equipment, IT assets and returnable transport items. Its anti-tamper construction is designed so that the inlay breaks if the label is removed after curing, preventing the RFID label from simply being transferred to another asset.

One Label Family for Different Asset Classes

With NFC and RAIN UHF options, multiple form factors, on-metal construction and an anti-tamper variant, HID IQ On-Metal Labels provide a flexible identification layer for assets that are difficult to tag with conventional RFID labels.

The portfolio is particularly suited to organizations that need to identify and manage large numbers of metallic IT or industrial assets, from laptops and office equipment to machines and infrastructure components.
