Detailed product information

Miniature HF/NFC Transponders for Metal

The NeoTAG Plug FG/MFG6340 (Ø 6 mm, depth 4 mm) and FG/MFG8340 (Ø 8 mm, depth 4 mm) are compact HF/NFC transponders (13.56 MHz) based on NXP ICODE SLIX and compliant with ISO/IEC 15693 (NFC Type 5).

Designed for flush mounting (“plug” form factor) in metal or plastic, they can be read and written with NFC-enabled smartphones, making them ideal for industrial identification, maintenance, and traceability.

What does “Plug” mean?

Plug” refers to the cylindrical, press-fit/insert form factor. The tag is seated flush in a drilled recess, saving space, protecting it mechanically, and delivering repeatable RF performance, perfect for tools, connectors (“Smart Connect”), housings, and machine parts.

Why ferrite matters

NEOSID’s core expertise is molded soft ferrite. Inside NeoTAG, ferrite guides the magnetic field at 13.56 MHz, decouples the transponder from surrounding metal, and stabilizes coupling.

Result: the Plug variants outperform conventional HF tags in metal environments, often readable with standard NFC smartphones. For background and use cases, see the Think WIoT article: RFID in Metal: NEOSID Miniature Transponders.
